Gwen is an expert voice and Contemporary Alexander Technique teacher. Her unique approach to training young artists from a somatic perspective as well as from a contemporary commercial vocal perspective has made her a sought-after guest artist and private teacher around the world. Gwen’s areas of research all relate back to reducing mental and physical tension for today’s artists and increasing gender and social equity in the greater theatre industry.

Gwen's approach to singing is one that combines the physical body, emotional world and the mind, and the influence that these all have on the voice. Her techniques and experiences have allowed my truest voice to shine through, and there is now an ease to my vocal ability. She shifts your awareness away from notes on a page and helps you focus on how singing feels for you. something else to note in working with Gwen is the ability to sustain an emotionally and physically demanding 8 show week with the exercises she provides. I highly recommend working with her.

Since studying with Gwen and consistently incorporating the guidance I received from her, my work in DEAR EVAN HANSEN has felt more physically grounded, more vocally free and any pain I was experiencing in my joints has lessened considerably. She’s a masterful teacher of the Alexander Technique, and her classes are filled with laughter and human connection. She is a truly gifted educator and artist.

My work with Gwen has helped me grow so much, not only as a singer but as a person. She takes a wonderfully facts and science based approach to singing and infuses her pedagogy with Alexander Technique to create a unique and profoundly impactful curriculum. In particular in the year after I came out as transgender, she was supportive, grounding, and flexible as we created a new path forward for me as a singer.

I met Gwen when I was a foreign exchange student at the University of Oklahoma in 2014. From the first day I met her, she embraced my individuality as a performer despite my ethnicity, nationality, and English ability. She sees me and trains me as a human being. As my journey goes on to become a professional actor and educator, the mentorship continues to bloom. Gwen is not only an excellent voice teacher, but also an educator who continues to educate herself. She is a warrior who constantly fights for inclusivity, equity, and her students. She is a pioneer who leads by example and takes actions to create an equitable and anti-racist environment for her colleagues and students.

Gwen obviously excels in the techniques that make Musical Theater singing possible, but more importantly, she encourages cross training your voice so that you have strengths in every style. That cross training mentality bleeds Into all parts of working with Gwen. Not only are you getting a powerhouse voice teacher, you are also getting an Alexander expert, someone who understands this ever-changing business, and someone whose heart and compassion for her students Is unparalleled. I believe that working on your craft is nearly impossible without having an Idea of who you are and how you work. But Gwen's ability to teach her students from a place of empathy and understanding gives you so much more than a place to just improve on your technique (which, I promise, will improve leaps and bounds).

After a lesson with Gwen, I feel calibrated. I am usually out of sync with my body when we start, but I feel so much more centered and balanced after just an hour's worth of Alexander work. With a simple touch or suggestion, Gwen helps release tension that has been building up for months. She Is kind, encouraging, and honest. Alexander work requires vulnerability and trust, and with TWO minutes, you trust Gwen implicitly. I use Gwen's warmups before every show, and I can say with full confidence that I wouldn't be surviving my currently contract without them. Thank you, Gwen!

With one hand between my shoulder blades and the other on my sternum, Gwen facilitated the release of residual energy from past trauma that I'd carried for so long, I didn't even know it was there. She created the space for me to move through that heavy knot and then skillfully guided me as I filled in the space with the purple light that radiates from my heart. She held that space so expertly that I felt safe to fully release what wasn't serving me and step fully into a much lighter, far more powerful version of myself on the other side. I carry that experience with me and can still tap into the empowered alignment we found by the end of the session. It felt like magic to me-- but I know Gwen will point right back to the science.
